Catching Up
It's been awhile since I've last written. I've put some pictures of the turkeys on the web site and hope to have some pictures of the vineyard up today. The turkey hens are laying eggs now and I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the eggs. I can either sell them or hatch them. My chickens are laying pretty good too. At first their eggs were pretty small because they are young but they are getting bigger every week. I only have blue and green eggs from the Aracana's. I hope someday to have pink eggs.
The vineyard has begun to bud and some leafs are coming out. It could be interesting because we are suppose to get snow tomorrow and Saturday. The good thing is not all in fact most of the vineyard hasn't budded out yet. Thank goodness, or we could be looking at a "Grapeless Harvests Festival". If this is the last snow storm or freeze of the year we should be okay. I'll take pictures of the snow and damage if there is any so you can see what happens. I never knew what it meant to be a farmer. You are at the mercy of the weather.
We have an other evening dinner guest. A large raccoon has decided to eat our cat food. I saw his prints in the mud the other day. The interesting thing about this guy is he is very neat. Usually raccoons tear up the sacks and turn over the barrel. This one just takes the top off the barrel and eats out of the bag.
We planted a garden, onions and potatoes. We are waiting until mid-April to plant everything else. I did plant some sunflowers and they are starting to come up. We'll see how they fair in the snow. I put them by the chicken fence and I hope I got them far enough away that the turkeys and chickens can't get them!
Summer hours are coming soon. I hope to have the store ready by April 4th!!
I have been invited to Asher High School to do a cheese demonstration. The dates haven't been firmed up yet but it sounds like alot of fun.
I have been canning more chicken and chicken broth. I was cleaning out the pantry and found some pumpkin I had canned in '05. I opened one jar and made a pumpkin pie. It was wonderful!!
I must admit I did toss out the turnips, not something I think we would ever eat. I canned them for Mother and she hasn't eaten any and I don't think she will, or would have!
Made three cases of jalapeno jelly yesterday. Going to make several batches of Moz. Cheese today. The milk is getting out of hand. I have to keep up with it or there are 7 gallons before you know it. :O I'm really going to have to be on the ball when we stop feeding babies altogether!!
I 've put it off long enough, now I need to get out and prepare for the snow storm!
Get the feeders under shelter, fill all the water tanks and get the tank heater out again. Don't you just LOVE Spring!!! I can't wait to see the baby goats in the snow and Wobbie, that should really be funny!!
Have a good one!
