Criminal Horses
As you know we are working on the new building. Also you know we open our gate on Saturdays for visitors. The gate to the Demi Rosa is an 1/8 of a mile from the house. The drive is very nice, up and down some hills, through the trees around the old barn, through the trees again and up to the house. It really is a pretty drive. Especially this time of year with the leaves falling!
After dispatching of the raccoon we contained working on the building. I noticed the horses walking down toward the old barn. It was over an hour later that I realized I hadn't seen the horse come back up the hill. So I went to see where they were. I drove down to the gate and didn't see them. I drove south and saw Lady the pony trotting down the middle of the road heading south. She was looking for the rest of the crew. I stopped the car and grabbed her and sent her back toward the gate. She seemed to resign herself to the idea of just going home. I kept driving south past the pond to the T in the road. I turned right because I had ridden Thunder to the neighbors house a few days before. I found all three criminals in the neighbors yard.
I parked and went to get Thunder, he started to make a move to try to get away, I yelled at him and he stood there for me to grab his halter. There I was with my car no leads and three horses. Just then Pat pulled up. He realized I had been gone to long and came looking for us! Pat brought some leads so we tied the horses and took both truck and car home. I grabbed my saddle and we drove back. We were a funny looking lot coming home. I was ridding Thunder, leading Sally while Pat was leading Sugar from the window of his truck.
Then on Monday Pat went out to feed and couldn't find the horses. I had an appointment to use the kitchen I lease to make my goodies!! I left for the kitchen and Pat went looking for the horses. Pat went down the same road and saw a fresh pile, if you know what I mean! LOL So he turned left. He found them and lead Thunder home, again with the truck. Pat put Thunder up and got the trailer and went back for the girls. They were on their way home!
Quick note: On the way home from the kitchen as I was driving 65 miles an hour a flock of turkeys flew over the highway, one at a time. If you have never experienced this it is VERY EXCITING!! A bird as big as your windshield flying a few feet over your car.
Pat fixed the fence and we let the horses out today. It wasn't long and I realized they were gone again. I took the truck and the little stinkers had pushed the gate open and headed out. I drove down the road we had been before and nothing. So I realized they had seen everything going that way they must have turned the other way out of the gate. So, I turned around and went the other way. I got around the bend and there they were coming out the oil field road. I stopped and turned them toward the house and they headed home. I drove behind them.
Again we fixed the gate so they can't push through it, we will see!!
